Netflix service outage lasting three days was result of severe technical issues with shipping system as per the company. Considering that Netflix did not ship any DVDs from any of their shipping centers, the most likely culprit is software update failure. Even large companies experience unreliable software from time to time and a good failback plan is required to secure continued operations.

A software bug in ESX server from VMWare causes outages across a broad spectrum of companies that provide virtual server hosting. DataCrunch servers are not virtualized. Dedicated servers provide maximum performance and eliminate reliance on new and immature virtualization technologies.

Verizon Business announced enhancements to its private IP networks by adding additional redundant routes. The Verizon network was heavily tested during December 2006 earthquake and tsunami event in Taiwan when eight of their submarine cables were cut in 22 locations. Verizon network handled the outage without an issue, however DataCrunch Company understands the need to rely upon multiple providers. Our BGP mulipath network includes all major backbone carriers, including Level 3, XO, Cogent, Qwest, Peer1, Global Village, GlobeInternet, Wiltel and others.

Research in Motion, the maker of popular BlackBerry smartphone, announced that recent three-hour service disruption has been linked to failed software upgrade. DataCrunch offers rolling upgrade service to their multisite customers to eliminate service interruptions. During rolling upgrade, servers are sequentially moved into standby and only after the upgrade is successful, the resources are reinserted into hosting pools.
